Records the history of U.S. naval aeronautics. Reel 1, PBY seaplanes protect convoys in the North Atlantic. Naval auxiliary craft (tankers, tenders, and transports) are loaded. Sec. of the Navy Knox confers with Adm. John Towers. Bureau of Aeronautics' films show a take off from a battleship in 1910, a parade in 1917, seaplanes arriving in France in 1918, a take off from the converted collier Langley in the 1920's, and early experiments in torpedo and dive bombing. Reel 2 shows activities on aircraft carriers in World War II: torpedo bombers and fighter planes are serviced, take off, and land. Planes are catapulted from destroyers and battleships. Torpedo bombers destroy a floating target.

William Franklin "Frank" Knox (January 1, 1874 – April 28, 1944) was an American politician, newspaper editor and publisher. He was also the Republican vice presidential candidate in 1936, and Secretary of the Navy under Franklin D. Roosevelt during most of World War II.
